The Great Game Fairs of Ireland - Truly Ireland's National Game Fairs

Because of some other organisers are claiming their fairs to be "oldest , biggest and best" Irish Game Fair or that they are Ireland's "National Game Fair" we thought we would put the record straight:

The Great Game Fairs of Ireland are organised by the most experienced Game Fair organising team in the world and are not only Ireland's national game fairs but fairs of an international standard!

The Irish Game Fair concept was launched at a meeting in Royal Ulster Yacht Club in 1978 when the late Major William Brownlow, Stanley Scott, Michael Dickey and Albert Titterington met with Donald Hoy, the land agent of Clandeboye Estate, Bangor to launch the first major Irish Game Game Fair. This momentous occasion in Irish country sports history has led to the development of a number of Game & Country Fairs since the very the first Irish Game Fair at Clandeboye Estate in June 1979. There are now a number of Game and Country Fairs spread throughout Ireland but since 2007 there are only be two "Great Game Fairs of Ireland".

Most countrysports people in Ireland recognise that the award winning Irish Game Fair & Country Lifestyle Festival, organised by the most experienced and innovative Irish Game Fair organising team, is a worthy "second generation" successor to the original Irish Game Fair. The primacy of the Festival was recognised by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board Marketing Excellence award. Its venue Shanes Castle, has a superbly central location in Northern Ireland with excellent access from all parts of Ireland and a history of delivering crowds and highly successful events. We have never seen a photograph of crowds, such as that above or below, or indeed such crowds at any of the competing events.

Birr Castle, situated in the centre of Ireland was the location of some of the most successful game and country fairs in the ROI. Birr Castle, situated in the centre of Ireland was the location of some of the most successful game and country fairs in the ROI. In 2007 with the cancellation of the National Country Fair it was decided that a new sustainable National Irish Game Fair should be staged at Birr.

To that end Albert and Irene Titterington, from the original Game Fair organising team (and also organisers of the successful Town & Country Fairs at Slane Castle, Co Meath) joined up with David Wilkinson (Director of previous Fairs at Birr, and Markree) and Philip Lawton (well known for his main arena expertise at quite a few Fairs in Ireland) to form a "dream" team to launch a new Irish Game Fair.

Since then the Fair has been a huge success in terms of all of the parameters of success i.e. a superb venue; superb prizes and competitions; a good range of trade stands who did unrivalled business and a fantastic overall attendance. In just one year the Fair delivered a performance on a par with its partner Fair in Northern Ireland. The Fair delivers a performance on a par with its partner Fair in Northern Ireland.
